In our fast-paced world, it’s easy to feel drained, overwhelmed, or burdened by negative energy. Energy clearing is an essential self-care practice to release these energetic blockages, restore balance, and maintain a sense of calm and vitality.
Just as daily bathing keeps your body fresh and clean, regular energy clearing ensures your energy field stays vibrant and balanced. This simple practice supports emotional well-being, physical vitality, and spiritual alignment.
Why Energy Clearing Matters

As we move through life, we interact with countless energies from people, places, and situations. We often pick up energetic “baggage” without even realizing it, carrying it as if it were our own. This can lead to challenges such as moodiness, fatigue, heightened stress and anxiety, irritability, or a sense of heaviness.
The same is true for our environment. Spaces like our homes and workplaces can accumulate dense, stagnant energy, making them feel uncomfortable or draining. Clearing your energy field and your environment can create a sense of lightness and harmony, allowing you to feel more balanced and energized.
Energy Clearing Tools and Techniques
There are many tools and techniques to cleanse your energy and restore harmony. Below, you’ll find some of my favorite energy-clearing tools and techniques. These are simple yet powerful practices that you can incorporate into your self-care routine to help you feel clear, grounded, and centered.
These tools can help you release energetic density and debris from your field and your environment. They’re great for everyday use and especially helpful during times of stress, following upsetting events, or whenever you feel “off.” Use them as soon as possible when stress levels are high and increase the frequency as needed.
1. Sea Salt Baths: A Simple Tool for Energy Cleansing
There’s nothing quite like a good salt bath to clear your energy. Sea salt is a natural magnet for dense energy, helping you release energetic blockages and stress. Here’s how to create your own clearing ritual:
- Fill your tub with warm water and add one cup of sea salt or Himalayan salt (without iodine).
- Soak for at least 15 minutes, letting the salt do its magic.
- When you’re done, drain the tub and rinse off under the shower to remove any lingering salt or energy.
I recommend salt baths after a stressful day or anytime you’ve received body or energy work. They’re a beautiful way to relax your body, release tension, and feel refreshed. No bathtub? A sea salt scrub in the shower works just as well.
2. Smudge Clearing Ceremony:
Smudging, a sacred practice rooted in Indigenous traditions, involves burning specific herbs like sage or Palo Santo to cleanse and uplift energy. To smudge:
- Light your smudge stick or loose herbs in a fire-safe container. I love using an abalone shell, as it incorporates the water element.
- Allow the herbs to smolder, and gently fan the smoke with a feather.
- Fan the smoke through the space and around your body, focusing on areas that feel heavy or tense. If you can, open a window to let the energy and smoke leave.
For those sensitive to smoke, a smokeless smudge spray is a great alternative. Serenity Achieved makes a wonderful smokeless smudge, which I highly recommend – it is available online.
3. Epsom Salt & Rubbing Alcohol for a Deep Clean:
This is one of the most powerful cleansing methods I know. It’s like a spring cleaning for your energy field and space. Here’s how to do it:
- Place a small mound of Epsom salt in a stainless-steel pot/pan. (Make sure it does not have any type of coating on it.)
- I recommend picking one up at a thrift shop – it will get charred, so you don’t want to use one of your good pots.
- Soak the salt with rubbing alcohol (70% or higher), just enough to wet it, and light it with a long match or long handled lighter.
- Although you can carry the pot around the room (carefully, using a potholder), I recommend sitting it in a safe place near the center to burn. Let the salt burn out completely before continuing.
- Do not leave the burning pot unattended.
- Once it burns out, rinse the salt down the drain.
- Burn one pot per room.
Be cautious! The flames can rise, and the container gets very hot. Always prioritize safety. Once the salt has burned out, you’ll notice the space feels lighter and clearer. Burn a second pot if the energy has not fully shifted. I like to sit nearby while it burns to clear my own energy field, too.
4. Essential Oils:
Essential oils are another wonderful way to clear energy. You can diffuse them in your space or add them to a salt bath for a double-clearing boost. Some favorites for cleansing include:
- Palo Santo
- Sage
- Purification (Young Living)
- Cedarwood
- Lavender
- Frankincense
- Peppermint
You can also add essential oils to your salt bath to help clear your energy and relax your body. Use oils that resonate with you and always follow safety guidelines when diffusing or applying them.
5. Clearing and Sealing the Auric Field:
This is one of my favorite tools for clearing the energy field and creating strong energetic boundaries. Created by my mentor, Elizabeth Frediani, this practice is found in her book, “Where Body Meets Soul: Subtle Energy Healing Practices for Physical and Spiritual Self-Care”. This practice helps to strengthen your energetic boundaries, clears your field, helps you learn to recognize your own energy vs. others, and to better filter out the energies of others. For copy write reasons, I cannot post it here, but I highly recommend purchasing the book. It is filled with powerful energetic self-care practices.
6. Energy Clearing Statement:
If you feel you may be carrying energy from others or the collective, this is a quick tool to help release it. Simply say this clearing statement aloud: “All that is not mine, or does not serve my highest purpose, I freely and willingly give back to the Universe to be transmuted as is appropriate and in accordance with Sacred and Divine Law.”
7. Triple Grid:
The Triple Grid is an angelic invocation that calls on team of angelic beings to clear your home, workspace, or other spaces. It then infuses desired energy into those spaces, and then creates a protective grid around it. The Triple Grid was originally published in “What is Lightbody”. Click here to read the original version, along with a Quad version, and one for your individual field.
Setting Up Your Energy Hygiene Routine
These practices are meant to support you in feeling lighter, more grounded, and deeply aligned with your energy. Experiment with the ones that resonate most, and trust your intuition when deciding what’s right for you in the moment.
If you’re feeling stuck or need extra support, I’m here to help. Schedule a private session (virtual or in office) and together, we’ll identify and clear the patterns, energetic blocks or heavy emotions holding you back, so you can move forward with confidence, ease, and a sense of renewed balance.
I enjoyed this but was surprised you didn’t mention burning sage
I am glad that you enjoyed this.
Actually, I did mention sage. It is under ‘Smudge Ceremony’.
