Surrounded By Grace

365 Moments of Grace

Grace is a gift from the divine that exists in each moment of our lives, if we only stop to witness it.  It comes to us through the smile of a stranger, a soft breeze to cool us on a hot day, the laughter of a child, the shoulder of a friend…

One of the many things that I love about my work is that I get to hear the stories of peoples lives.  They share their heartaches, their pain, their triumphs, and their joy.  I am given the opportunity to be both a witness and a guide for some small part of their journey through this life.  As they share their stories with me, I am blessed with the opportunity to be touched by a whisper of Grace as they share with me how it has transformed them. The more stories I hear, the more I come to know that we are constantly surrounded, supported and inspired the divine – even in the darkest moments of our lives.

Grace has touched my life in so many amazing ways over the years.

I am constantly awed by it.  I see Grace in the little gifts and tiny miracles that I see in each day, however one of the most profound experiences I have had occurred on one of the darkest days of my life.  The day that I attempted to commit suicide.

Although it has never been a secret, I have rarely shared the story about that day and have never shared it publicly until last week when my story was published in the new book, 365 Moments of Grace.

In this book, I share the story of how the world seem to come together to keep me alive.  Moment by moment throughout that day, circumstances and people continually stepped in front of my path, thwarting my plans and keeping me alive.  As I experienced it, I did not fully comprehend what was happening but as I look back I can see clearly that I was completely surrounded by Grace through every step of that day and through the long years of healing that followed.

Through that an many other personal experiences, I have come to know that I am never alone on this journey through life.  That knowing has helped me through the difficult times and the dark days.  I have learned to look for the Grace in front of me, especially when I am struggling or feeling alone. When I cannot see it in my own life, it sometimes helps me to hear or read the stories of others and, through the Grace in their lives, I am able to see it in my own life once again.
